The cells can be seen in the flask using an inverted microscope.<\/p><p>They are kept in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccap.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/MR_PC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PC (Prescott\u2019s &amp; Carrier\u2019s) medium<\/a><\/p><p>The tissue culture flask has been overfilled to protect the amoebas during posting and the contents will need to be split into another flask on arrival.<\/p><p>The amoebas graze on <em>Tetrahymena pyriformis<\/em> and each flask will need 8 drops of the provided Tetrahymena once a week. Please note that they would have been \u2018fed\u2019 on the day of transit. The cells can be seen in the flask using an inverted microscope at x20, for observation use x40, or x60 if available.<\/p><p>They are kept in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccap.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/MR_f2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">f\/2 marine medium<\/a> \u2013 with a boiled wheat grain added to encourage growth of the bacteria on which the ciliate feeds.<\/p><p><em>Aristerostoma<\/em> is also algivorous and can be fed with a few drops of <em>Nannochloropsis <\/em>or <em>Isochrysis <\/em>algae.<\/p><p>For long term maintenance of this culture, it will need to be subcultured every 4 weeks.
