Algaculture Courses
CCAP offers both online and in-person training courses in Algaculture, aimed at students, technicians, early career researchers, industry professionals, and algae enthusiasts. We cover:
- algal biology
- media preparation and sterilisation
- algal maintenance techniques
- sampling, isolation and purification
- enumeration
- cryopreservation
- molecular phycology and bioinformatics
- algal scale-up and mass culture
Our courses are delivered by a combination of lectures and hands on practical classes (in-person) or video demonstrations (online). See below for more information and links to sample programmes.
Online
We hold our online course around the last week in April each year, over three mornings Tuesday to Thursday.
The course is held via Microsoft Teams, and is a mixture of lectures, video demonstrations and Q&A sessions, delivered live by the CCAP team, SAMS colleagues, and guest speakers.
We don’t record the course, but we provide pdf copies of lecture slides, and links to all the videos so they can be accessed during and after the course.
There is plenty of time built in for questions and discussion.
In-person
We hold our in-person course around the first week of November each year, it is usually 2-3 days depending on participant interests.
The course is held at SAMS in Oban, Scotland, UK, and is a mix of lectures and practical sessions in the CCAP laboratory, delivered by the CCAP team and SAMS colleagues.
This course can be tailored to participants interests if practicable – typically there are two days of general algaculture, and one day of cryopreservation, participants can attend all three days or just the first two.
There is plenty of time built in for questions and discussion.
Bespoke
We are open to running bespoke in-person courses tailored to specific interests, or for groups wishing to attend at another time to the set in-person course, depending on resources and prior commitments.
